the art of storytelling

To honor Sarah Chudnow’s legacy, we designed the display with a narrative focus, organizing the wall into distinct topics that highlighted her impactful contributions and personal journey. Each section was paired with relevant imagery placed near the corresponding text to enhance the storytelling.

High-resolution scans of archival materials, including photographs and newspaper clippings, were thoughtfully integrated into the design. While some images were digitally restored for clarity, others were left untouched to preserve their authentic, historical feel. This balance ensured the display retained its connection to the past while remaining visually compelling.

To further elevate the storytelling, the copy panels were paired with backlit resin, symbolically bringing light to Sarah’s story. This thoughtful integration of light and imagery ensured her journey and accomplishments were showcased in a way that was both visually striking and deeply meaningful.

candle station

The Shabbat candle lighting station serves as the perfect complement to the feature wall and artifact cabinet, creating a cohesive narrative that not only honors Sarah Chudnow’s legacy but also invites the community to interact with the exhibit in a deeply personal way. Designed with both symbolism and practicality in mind, the station embodies Sarah’s connection to Jewish tradition and her dedication to fostering a sense of belonging.

Its functionality as a Shabbat candle lighting station was a key design element, ensuring it could be actively used by the residents of Ovation Jewish Home. The station is thoughtfully designed to be accessible, with features such as a wheelchair-height platform, rounded edges for safety, and electric candles that replicate the warmth of real flames. The intuitive push-button functionality allows residents of all abilities to engage with the station easily, making it a meaningful and inclusive addition to the display.

Framed by Sarah’s image and the blessing text, the candle station symbolizes her enduring values of service, community, and faith. It not only honors her legacy but also creates a space for residents to connect with their own traditions, fostering a sense of continuity and reflection within the exhibit.
